Can birth control pills cause weight loss?

I have been taking the Yasmin since December 30th of last year. I have since loss 16 pounds, with no dramatic change in diet or exercise routine. My doctor put me on this particular pill so I would not gain weight, as I have always been slightly overweight. Have you heard anything about the pill causing weight loss?Can birth control pills cause weight loss?
Its possible to lose weight because of birth control pill. My gyno put me on birth control pills coz i have PCOS ( Poly Cystic Ovary Syndrome).
